Animal Flour

The animal flours are produced starting from the nonconsumable products by the human ones and collected by the die of the breeding Animal E, and of the industry of the fishing (fish oil and fish meals). The legislation distinguishes two types of flour, those consumable by the man and those which are not it.

These flours being rich in Protein S, they were used a long time by the food manufacturers of the cattle in substitution total or partial of proteins of vegetable origin (soya bean oil cakes, colza, etc). Since the Years 1990 and the medical problems caused by the spongiform encéphalite (in other words the mad cow), the sector is very regulated and the reputation of its flours are bad.

Problems

The not consumed coproduits absorptive directly by food industry like certain meat offals, exits, skins, greases… represent a large volume. Two problems arose with the two dies of the animal breeding and fishing. How to develop the by-products or how to destroy them. Indeed, if they are not used, the volume of waste is such as it implies that they are destroyed within déchetteries since the hiding also causes a problem of Pollution. The animal flours seemed resolvent these two problems.

In European Union since the years 1990, for medical reasons the consumable flours by the man are not treated in the same establishments as the flours intended for the animal feeds. The Fondoir S treat greasy fabrics by respecting strict medical standards. These products are identified in France by an oval stamp and represented, in France into 1997,2,4% of the raw materials used for the manufacture of made up food for the man. The center of demolition or squaring, they treat only the flours intended for the animals. The techniques of treatment in these two industries are often identical, this is why the term of squaring is used by these dies. According to the French ministerial circular of July 22nd, 1998, a center of squaring indicates: “Installations of treatment of the corpses, the medical seizures of slaughter-houses and the materials at the risks specified taking into consideration ESST. Manifold centres and deposits of corpses in which these corpses are subjected to a pretreatment (skin and/or cutting and/or crushing)”

Problem of the ESB

The identified cause is a prion.

Three assumptions were advanced:

direct Assumption. The agent would be that of the “Trembling of the sheep”, thus the barrier of the species would have been crossed.
endemic Assumption. The bovine population would have been carrying, on low level, of this infectious agent. The ingestion of animal flours and the temperature drop of heating would have supported the development of the disease.
environmental Assumption. The use of a Insecticide against a parasite of the bovines in Great Britain could have caused neurochimic change S.

On the other hand the transmission of the cow (or ox) towards the man of let us request causing an alternative of the disease of Creutzfeldt-Jakob is proven.
