Aniba

Aniba is a basic site known Nubie of the Egyptians under the name of Miam . It was the seat of the governor of the province of Wawa . Before being absorbed by water of the Lake Nasser, one could see there the ruins of the ancient city, a necropolis of the Moyen Empire (and S) and the remainders of a fortress.

Only the rupestral tomb of Pennout 1st, governor under Ramsès {{VI}}, was saved water to be reconstituted with forty kilometers in the North-East of the original site (close to the temples of Amada and Derr).

Fortress of Aniba

Aniba is the site of one of the Nubian fortresses established by the Pharaon S to defend their southernmost border and to control trade route which passed by the the Nile since the Sudan and the Africa.

The first fortifications date from the Ancient Empire but those were rebuilt by Sésostris {{Ier}}, then increased with the Moyen Empire and show, although of more modest size, a great similarity with the fortress of Bouhen. We find the ditch and a first wall followed by the flanked crenelated walls of multiple bastions.
