Anholt

The island of Anholt is a Danish island Cattégat. Its surface is of 21,75 km ² and its population of approximately 160 people. She can be connected by ferry to Grenå. It is part of the Municipalité of Grenå. After the reform of the municipalities, it will amalgamate with the municipality of Norddjurs in the area of the Jutland-Exchange on January 1st 2007.
History
This island formerly formed part of the historical province of Halland but remained Danish when the Sweden definitively seized this province at the 17th century.Of 1808 with 1814, Anholt was occupied by the Britannique S which sought to restore the functions of the Phare. During the War of the gunner, Denmark tried to take again the island. The battle of Anholt (March 27th 1811) marked a decisive British victory and a disaster of the Danish army. A monument commemorating this battle is in the village of Anholt.
The construction of the port of the island began in 1899 and lasted until its startup in 1902. The centenary of the port was celebrated with one year of delay, in June 2003.
Geography
The Western part of Anholt is a country of Moraine S. the small village is located in the middle of the landscape whose port (built in 1902) is placed at the north-western point of the island. The oriental party of the island is known like tallest Désert of Scandinavian Europe, result of hundreds of years of use of firewood in particular for the headlight on the Eastern point of the islands. Now, of main efforts were taken to preserve this single landscape and to prevent dévastatifs effects of the erosion. Strictly speaking, the " désert" is not a true desert but a ground of Bruyère S and Lichen S.With the Eastern point of the island (" Totten ") is largest colony of Phoque S of Denmark. This part of the island is protected from the visitors.
