|} The angus or Aberdeen-Angus is a Race Bovin E British.
Origin and geographical distribution
It comes from the area of the counties of Aberdeenshire and Angus in Scotland.
Elle is resulting from the interbreeding in XVIe century of races to dominant black without horns " Angus doddie" and " Buchan humlie". The selection started as of the end of the 18th century. Mr. Watson is one of the fathers of this race. It is him which after having noted that its black cows most powerful with were eliminated the other colors from its herd. Its bull " old jock" is the prototype of the race with a cow, " old granny" who lived 35 years and had 29 calves. Blood of Shorthorn was introduced in addition, but the breeding in pure race was quickly founded and the race was officially recognized in 1835 with the establishment of the first herd-book (delivers genealogical) published in 1862. Today, the eefectif British is stable with 10000 cows including 7000 registered with the register and 500 bulls. The export of these animals initially towards the the United States, then towards the South America, the Australia…, began in 1878. The race is very widespread today. It counts 320.000 heads of cattle in the United States in 2005.
Morphology
It wears a uniform dress which can be red dark ( red angus ) or black ( black angus ), although white can appear on the udders. The mucous membranes are black.C' is a cow of intermediate size, 135 cm with the garot for 650 to 700 kg, the bull measuring 145 cm for 800 to 1.000 kg. It has a massive stature which had with rather short legs.
Elle is naturally without horn S. the gene responsible for the absence of the horns has a character dominating (what means that the hybrids of first generation will be without horns). This character is used to produce hybrids without horns. (less wounds between individuals in intensive breeding and with respect to the cowherds)
Aptitudes
It is a race bouchère which produces a Viande appreciated, finely spotted, with a good conformation of carcass and an excellent meat yield. The quantity of fat however rejects part of the concerned current consumers of their cholesterol level.Elle is resistant, easily adaptable, not very demanding and extremely early. It supports the wet winters like heat in summer.
Les angus is largely used in crossing, to improve qualities of carcass, the aptitude Lait ière or to bring the character without horns. The females vèlent easily, partly thanks to the small size of calves, and have good maternal aptitudes.
