The island of Anguilla is a British dependence which formed part formerly of a confederation including/understanding Saint-Christophe-and-Niévès. In 1995 it became associated member with the Organization of the States of Caribbean Eastern the.
History
detailed Article: History of AnguillaBefore the arrival of Europeans the island was called Malliouhana, arrowhead, by the Indians Arawaks. It left there vestiges which go back at least to year 600 of our era, in particular of the petroglyphs at the bottom of a cave named the Fountain and the remainders of forty villages. Arawaks cultivated the cassave, cotton, corn and sweet potato. They fished various varieties of fish and shells of reefs.

In 1745 and 1796 the island undergoes two attempts at invasion by France.
From 1650 to 1882 it alternatively is attached administratively to Saint Christophe located at a hundred kilometers at the South, beyond the islands of Saint Martin's day and St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, or with Antigua, 200 km in South-east. After the abolition of slavery in 1834 the colonists leave the island and sell their grounds to their former slaves. From 1882 to 1967, it is part of the colony of Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla , but complains regularly about the lapse of memory where Saint Kitts leaves.
February 27th 1967, the United Kingdom grants a statute of autonomy to the State associated with Saint Christopher, Nieves and Anguilla . Geography
