History
Perhaps the name of the village comes from the Groin, old name of the Saint Nicolas's Day, river sprinkling the village. At the 13th century, Angeot has a castle that the counts of Ferrette give in stronghold to a family which takes the name of it. The castle belongs to the latter until in 1430, time to which a family of Soultz obtains it in pledge.
In 1538, the chancellor of the Abbaye of Murbach buys the castle, which remains in the mobility of the counts of Ferrette. During the period during which Angeot belonged to the possessions of Habsbourgs, Angeot bore the German name of Ingelsott . Angeot belonged to the Département of Haut-Rhin until in 1871. Ultimate torn off concession with Bismarck, Angeot (as well as the Eastern communes of Territory-of-Belfort) remained attached to the France, in exchange of certain Lorraine mining communes.
At the 14th century, the parish of Angeot is very wide since it gathers the localities of Bretten, Eteimbes, Felon, Lagrange, Leval, Petitefontaine, Reppe, Romagny-under-Rougemont and Rougemont-the-Castle. In 1782, date on which the parish is detached from the diocese of Basle to join that of Besancon, it includes/understands nothing any more but the village of Angeot and that of Petitefontaine.
April 14th 1725 Angeot was the epicentre of an earthquake whose intensity épicentrale had reached the magnitude 5 .
