Angel Paulin Terver

Ange Paulin Terver is a malacologist French, born with Lyon (the Rhone) the October 4th 1798 and died in the Fountain-on-Saone (the Rhone) the August 15th 1875.

As of his more young age, his/her father communicated his passion for entomology to him. The fortune of his/her father having perished in a shipwreck, it gives up its studies with Colmar to find work with Lyon. Then 14 years old, it devotes its rare free times to its studies and its collections. He traverses the Lyons surroundings in the search of insects and of molluscs and is not long making malacology its field of predilection and in being made a reputation. Thus it côtoie of other Lyons scientists, like the botanist Nicolas Charles Seringe (1776 - 1858), director of the Botanical garden in Lyon or the malacologist Gaspard Louis Andre Michaud (1795 - 1880).

It carries out the 3 beautiful lithographies which decorate the supplement with the Catalog of Molluscs of Draparnaud that Michaud wrote in 1831. It thus appeared with an unequalled precision of drawing 123 figures of new shells, of which much comes from its own collection.

Its collection becomes considerable then by the many series of marine and exotic molluscs of the whole world which it gathers. It stuck starting from its collection to carry out many new boards (more than 200) to mitigate the too imperfect representations of the other authors.

Its publications are very few. It published a report in the first volume of the Newspaper of Conchology and some work in Annals of the Company of Agriculture of Lyon, from which he was member. In 1853, it is named secretary of the Commission of silks of Lyon, within the Company of Agriculture.

In 1877, then 77 years old, it is withdrawn in the countryside in the Fountain-on-Saone and only moves its collections. He dies in this city, while he arranged his last sample.

His/her son, Dr. Pierre Terver was president of the General advice of the Rhone. Its collection was yielded by its family to the Natural history museum of Natural history of Lyon.
