Angband
Angband is a place described by J.R.R. Tolkien in Silmarillion . This name has as a significance “iron prison” or “steel hell”.
It is the second underground dark fortress built by Melkor, in the west of Utumno, its residence. It was ordered by its lieutenant Sauron. The purpose of this bastion was to monitor the sea and to prevent a possible attack coming from Valinor.
When Utumno was destroyed at the time of the Guerre of the Powers, the foundations of Angband remained. A little later Sauron gathered all the malefic and malevolent creatures there, during the imprisonment of its Master. All the bad spirits had gathered there, like large army awaiting the return of the Master. When Morgoth returned in Angband, it set up over a volcano at three tops: the Thangorodrim.
During the First Age and the wars of Beleriand, Angband was besieged with many recoveries during more than four centuries by the Noldor, before being finally destroyed by the Valar at the time of the Guerre of the Great Anger. The last battle was such as the Beleriand entire was absorbed.
There exists a Rogue-like (Roleplay) named Angband.
