Aneto

The Aneto (in Catalan and Gascon Occitan peak of Aneto , in Aragonese Pico Aneto , in Spanish Aneto ) is the culminating point of the the Pyrenees with 3.404 Mr. It is located in Spain in the Province of Huesca, in the north of the Aragon. It belongs to the Massif of Maladeta whose it constitutes the southern end.

Its old French name was the Néthou , but it fell in disuse to the profit from that from Aneto, or peak of Aneto .

Its rise is generally carried out starting from the large refuge of Rencluse located at 2140 meters of altitude. The route crosses, in its bigger length, the Glacier of Aneto which extends to north from the peak.

Since the refuge, the way is marked out at the beginning, it is easy to be lost while assembling too much. A good point of reference mark consists in knowing that one should not exceed the pluviometer which is with the top of the master key to be used. (in July 2007 validates)

Attention not to be found taken in the fog with the descent, the lack of beaconing and the stone drains as well as cliffs can make the research of the refuge delicate. (one is tired with the return!! it is necessary approximately to envisage 10:00 to make the outward journey return)

The top is defended by a very short rock passage: the No Mahomet . It is a short edge of large stable blocks, not very broad and open on a vacuum impressing on each side. Attention, possible obstruction!

At the top one can admire an impressive cross and discover a contrasted sight, the Massif of snow-covered Maladeta in north and dark and dry Haut-Aragon in the south.

Rises

the rise is marked out little and consequently rather difficult. To envisage cramps!
  • 1842 - on July 18th, Plato de Tchihatcheff , Russian officer who rests with Luchon, his guide Pierre Sanio de Luz, the guides Luchonnais Bernard Arrazau and Pierre Redonnet, Albert de Franqueville, a Norman botanist, and his Jean guide Sors, start from Bagnères-with-Luchon. They take the way of the old people's home of France, cross the Port of Vénasque and spend the night safe from Rencluse, then simple dry stone construction. The following day, they manage to cross a collar, towards the collar of Alba and are lost on the Southern slope towards the Lake Gregueña. The evening, with end of force, they find refuge in a hut towards the valley of Malibierne. At daybreak, after a short night of rest, here are left again towards the collar Coroné. In spite of the fear of the cracks, they decide to try the top by the glacier. After the passage of a frayed edge of a few tens of meters which will give them difficulties (Albert de Franqueville will baptize this passage “Bridge of Mahomet”) here on the top. A Cairn is set up and a bottle containing the name of the first mountaineers is left at the top. The culminating point of the Pyrenees is overcome on July 20th, 1842.
  • 1879 - on March 1st, Roger de Monts, B. Courrèges, B. and V. Paget make it first winter rise of it.

Refuge of Rencluse (Renclusa)

Attention you are in a national park, even if it is relatively flexible, it is interdict to make fire for all the summer period (to think of getting information before leaving). It is possible to plant the tent beside the refuge, however, it is good to eat something hot and consistent before this kind of rise. The dinner with the refuge is consistent and completely correct for 14€ env (July 2007). The whole of the valley is sublime and you will find camp-sites in bottom with services of bus allowing in the absence of car to easily move. (only the summer)
