Anduze
Anduze , in Occitan Andusa , is a common French, located in the department of the Gard and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
Geography
Anduze is the chief town of one of the Cantons of Gard in the Arrondissement of Ales, the city is located on the named river “the Gardon of Anduze”.
History
The Seigneurie of Anduze which was established at the beginning of the 10th century was one of oldest and most powerful of the Languedoc. It was allied with the counts de Toulouse and took part in the crusade against the Albigensians, in 1266, it was attached to the crown of France.
Then chief town of Viguerie, Anduze was also the cradle of the French Sériciculture which appeared there as of the end of the 13th century. The city then became the regional center of the trade of the Soie and the Laine.
With, Anduze was an important center of the Cevennes Protestantisme. The fortifée city, which counted 6.000 inhabitants in 1570, became the general headquarter of the Protestant forces of the South. It was the base of the resistance of the duke of Rohan in 1622, and in 1629 with the Paix of Ales, it saw its ramparts démantelés.
At the 19th century, with the industrial revolutions, Anduze experienced a new economic development (silk spinning mills, hosiery, hat industry), before being struck by the recession, like the whole of the the Cevennes.

the tower of Pézène : it belongs to the " castle of Pézène" , old house seigneuriale and residence of the counts de Beaufort of XVe-XVIe century. The tower dates from XIIIe-XIVe century.

the New castle : it is a residence seigneuriale XVIIe century. At the time of its construction, it was integrated in the ramparts. It includes/understands two turns.

the Barracks : they were built in 1740 within Brie, to shelter the royal troops. The part which remains temple on the left currently shelters the Tourist office, the part of right-hand side became the Town hall.

the church St Etienne : it was built between 1686 and 1688 on the site of the old temple demolished following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. The Bell-tower date of 1588.

the Temple : one of largest of France, built between 1820 and 1823 on the site of the court of the Barracks. The great nave is shared in three vaults leaning on powerful pilasters.

the Tower of the Clock : it goes back to 1320, it has three levels and presents same architecture as the Acute-Dead ramparts of . Become clock of city in 1569, it was saved at the time of the destruction of the ramparts in 1629.

Meridian the : clock of the city since 1569, saved in 1629 at the time of the destruction of the ramparts, the meridian one was restored in 1989.

the covered Place : built in 1457, called " Orgerie" or gone with the grains. It was the place of the market to sweet chestnuts and today that of the local products (Thursday).
the Fountains

the Fountain of the Bicentenary : realized in 1989 by a companion for the commemoration of the bicentenary of the French revolution. The three columns illustrate each one a style: the doric one, the ionic one, the Corinthian.

the Fountain Pagoda : of Eastern style, it was built in 1648, undoubtedly according to the drawings (and with the sums of money) of Anduzien which had gone to seek seeds of worms to silk in the East.

the Fountain of the Potters : located between the street Gaussorgues and the street Fusterie, it covers the base of the edge of a house forming the angle. It owes its name with the fact that many workshops of potters occupied this district still a few decades ago.

the Fountain of the church : gone back to 1715, it is formerly located on the site of an old cemetery " Place of Cimetière". The pyramid which surmounts the fountain presents a visual effect surprising under a certain angle, this because of the three stone balls which form the base of it.

the Fountain of Notre-Dame : go back to 1715. It owes its name with an old disappeared vault.

the Fountain Pradier : to traditional style, it goes back from first half of the XIXe century. It is made up of a vast circular basin in the center of which, on a worked base, seat a basin takes, supporting itself a composite column of style.
