Andrija Matijaš
Andrija Matijaš “Pauk” (the spider) (born on July 31st, 1947 in Pozorac, Marina close to Trogir (Croatia) - October 9th, 1995 with Mrkonjić Grad (Bosnia Herzégovine).
Major general of the Croatian armed , and hero of war in Croatia.
Andrija Matijaš leaves the Yugoslav army and joined the Croatian army, becomes commander of a company which will live its baptism of fire in the area of Banija against the Serb rebels in 1991.
With the tanks which it captured at the time of the battles, it will create the 4th regiment of combat, which it will direct starting from November 10th, 1992.
During the Opération Maslenica its regiment will face the Serb tanks stationed with Kasić. It will be wounded by the explosion of a mortar shell.
He will become Head of State major and will direct the operations “Winter 94” “Summer 95” in preparation of the operation storm in August 1995.
He will be killed on October 9th, 1995 in the town of Mrkonjić Grad at the time of the “Opération southern action”, which led the Croatian forces to 23km of Banja Luka.
In its memory the 4th regiment of combat was called " araignées".
