Andrew Fire
Andrew Z. Fire is an American scientist , born in 1959 with Palo Alto in California. He is professor of Pathologie and Génétique at the medical school of the Université Stanford. In 2006, the Karolinska Institut of Stockholm gave to him, like with Craig C. Mello, the Nobel Prize of medicine for its work carried out in 1998 to the Carnegie Institution on the interference ARN.
Biography
Andrew Fire was born with Palo Alto in California and grew in the same State, with Sunnyvale. After having attended Fremont High School, it entered to the the University of California to Berkeley or it obtained a Bachelor in Mathématiques in 1978, with old 19 years. It joined then the Massachusetts Institute off Technology and took down its Ph.D. in biology in 1983.He was then post-doctoral researcher in the laboratory of molecular biology of Sydney Brenner (Nobel Prize 2002) with Cambridge with the the United Kingdom.
From 1986 to 2003, he worked with Baltimore, in the department of Embryologie of the Carnegie Institution. It is during this period that its work Molecular biology on the use of ARN double-bit was published to block the expression of the Gène S.
From 1989, it also occupies a post of professor associated in the department with biology of the Université Johns Hopkins and joined Stanford in 2003. Throughout its career, its research was financed by the National Institutes off Health.
Andrew Fire is also member of the National Academy off Sciences and of the American Academy off Arts and Sciences and takes part in Board off Scientific Counselors and the National Center for Biotechnology.
