Sir Andrew Frank Davis is a British Leader , born the February 2nd 1944 in Ashridge (Hertfordshire)
Biography
He studies with the Royal College off Music, with the King' S College of Cambridge, then with Franco Ferrara with Rome.He is chief assisting of BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra since 1970. Its career is specified in 1975, when he becomes principal chief of the Symphony orchestra of Toronto.
It begins a career of chief of opera in 1988, with its nomination with the Festival of Glyndebourne, where it meets the soprano American Gianna Rolandi which will become his wife. Davis again directs an orchestra of the BBC of 1989 to 2000, with the Symphony orchestra of the BBC.
Andrew Davis is annobli by the Queen in 1992.
In 2000, Davis directs the Opéra of Chicago, then the Symphony orchestra of Pittsburgh in 2005.
Repertory
With a vast repertory, Davis also supported the British contemporary type-setters, in particular Michael Tippett, with the direction of the first of The Mask off Time and an production assistance of the Midsummer Marriage (2005) in Chicago.Its recording of the opera of Harrison Birtwistle, The Mask off Orpheus , is regarded as a reference.
