Andrei Zalizniak

Andrei Anatolievitch Zalizniak (Russian: АндрейАнатольевичЗализняк), born on April 29th 1935, is a Russian Linguiste, member of the Société of Linguistics of Paris since 1957, of the Academy of Science of Russia since 1997, of the American Linguistic Society since 1985, of the Academy of Science of Göttingen of then 1998.

Still studying with the Faculty of Arts (филологическийфакультет) of the University of Moscow, Andreï Zalizniak remained in Paris lasting the year 1956-1957 under foreign pupil of the National university of the Street of Ulm. Of return in Russia, it wrote the first dictionary Russian-French integrating a reasoned morphological description of the terms (1961).

Influenced by the Structuralism and the teaching of Andre Martinet, it provided a systematic description of the Russian morphology in its monograph " Inflection of the name russe" , 1967, then in its " Grammatical dictionary of the russe" , 1977. The two works became a base impossible to circumvent not only for the study of morphology, but also for the machine analysis of the Russian texts; a many software is inspired some very largely. The accented paradigms of contemporary Russian were specified considerably there. The inventories of the endings made it possible to raise on news basees the question of the number of cases in Russian (question raised following A. Zalizniak by Igor Meltchouk (Мельчук). It should be noted that this description is based crucially on an innovative theory of the writing of Russian, which one finds echoes in work of Mr. Chicouène and I.M. Loginova. A many work of A. Zalizniak concerns the Russian Graphématique and old man-Russian.

Since 1981, A. Zalizniak takes part, under specialist in the medieval Russian texts, with the archaeological forwardings directed by professor V.L. Yanine (В.Л. Янин) on the site of the town of Novgorod. Its descriptions and interpretations of the Documents on birch bark made it possible to rebuild the grammar of this idiom so different from the speeches old man-Russian known elsewhere. Part of this work - which continues - is gathered in the monograph " The old man novgorodien" , 1995, 2nd ED. 2004.

A. Zalizniak is also an eminent specialist in the Slavic Accentologie (" Stressing protoslave with the Russian stressing russe" , Moscow, 1985), and the author of a grammar of Sanskrit. In a more recent work, by encasing the step of Romance Jakobson in its diatribe which opposed it in particular to the French Slavists Louis Leger and André Mazon, it endeavors to reject the suspicion of counterfeit of XVIIIe S. emitted about the Dit of Igor, poem medieval whose original was lost. Let us announce finally its work in collaboration with its wife, the linguist Elena Padoutcheva (Падучева), in particular a typological description of the relative subordinate clauses.
