Andreas Ryff

Andreas Ryff (February 13rd 1550 - August 18th 1603) was commercial, a politician and a chronicler Suisse originating in Basle.

Biography

During its childhood, it accompanies his father in the markets bâlois. He works then in a spice merchant who maltreats it. At the 14 years age, it starts to study mathematics but it is struck by the Peste. Whereas four of his/her brothers and sisters die in a few weeks, he manages to be restored accuracy. In 1565, it begins a training of tradesman in the president of the village of Porrentruy.

Ryff makes the trade of various food products and matters like iron. Some time later, it goes to Strasbourg where it improves in the art of the trade and the exchange of goods. In 1569, it goes back to Basle near his/her father and advises to him to launch out in the manufacture of fabrics and clothing. It Marie in 1574 with Margaretha Imhof which gives him five children.

It launches out then in the policy. In 1591, it occupies a place with the council of the city. In May 1594, it negotiates with the country insurrectionists of the Guerre of Rappen who refused to pay taxes. Thanks to its intervention, Basle prevents that the conflict lasts for ever. In 1597, it reaches the rank of Stadhauptmann (captain of the city) which has the capacity on the troops of the city in the event of war. The following years, he works as ambassador with Soleure then in France.

Extremely of its many voyages, it writes in 1597 the chronicle Cercle of the Confederation ( Circkell der Eidtgnoschaft ) and made account-returned detailed of its routes. In 1582, Ryff launches archaeological excavations in a theater of the Roman epoch.

He dies in 1603.
