Andreas Hörtnagl

Andreas Hörtnagl (born the November 28th 1942 with Matrei amndt Brenner) is a Politicien Autrichien.

Andreas Hörtnagl was mayor of the commune Gries amndt Brenner of 1980 with 1992.

It is known for its conflict with its predecessor Jakob Strickner, who praised himself in the German newspaper “Bunte” to have helped Josef Mengele to flee in Italy while crossing the “Rattenlinie”. The Hörtnagl mayor was ashamed of the behavior of his predecessor and excused himself near the survivors of the Holocauste.

In 1991, the Hörtnagl mayor founded, according to the suggestion of the bishop Reinhold Stecher, the first “the Arch” in its commune Gries amndt Brenner. It is a community of handicapped and not-handicapped people in Austria. After having decided that Gries amndt Brenner would be the first Austrian commune to accommodate 20 refugees of Romania, he was not re-elected any more, but the university and the diocese of Innsbruck honoured its engagement.

In 1992, it founded with Andreas Maislinger the Austrian Service in memory of the holocaust and thus made it possible to the young Austrians to cooperate with places commemorative of the Holocaust abroad. Since 2000, he is executive vice president of the Austrian service abroad.
