Pasteur and a theologist
With Rottenburg amndt Neckar (1503-1524)
Before he becomes a partisan of the ideas of Martin Luther, and Pasteur with Rottenburg, we do not know however anything of its life passed, if it is not that its family is of Rottenburg amndt Neckar. His/her father, Hans Keller is even the mayor of the city.
Andreas is probably formed with the convent, but it also makes studies with Vienna (Austria). He preaches in spring 1524 in his birthplace against the Pope. Five preachings or treaties intended for the inhabitants of Rottenburg amndt Neckar are preserved.
It quickly will become one of the first Protestant theologists famous in all the Wurtemberg of the Renaissance and apart from this kingdom.
With Strasbourg (1524-1525)
As of his conversion, this preacher and lampoonist evangelist are persecuted by the catholics wurtembourgeois. Obliged to leave the city, it takes refuge with Strasbourg, the beginning of the summer 1524, and it becomes for a few months deacon of the church Saint-Pierre-the-Old man of Strasbourg. The church forms part of the seven then Paroisse S Lutherans of Strasbourg. Strasbourg is at that time an imperial free city, which belongs to the Saint Empire Romain Germanique. There it engages in the war of the lampoons , publishing small treaties dedicated with middle-class women and of the middle-class men of Strasbourg, financed and undoubtedly paid by them. Seven of these treaties published between July 1524 and the end of 1525 are known for us:
- Ein kurtzer Begriff deren Puncten so yetzunder von etlichen als ein nüwe Lere obstructs werden (Short treaty of the points that some name now new doctrines, dedicated to Anna Marschelck);
- Auszlegung of Evangelischen Lobgsangs Benedictus (Explanation of the song of evangelic praise Benedictus, dedicated to Adolf von Mittelhausen;
- Ein schone Auszlegung of the xxiij. Capitels yn Mattheo (a beautiful explanation of the Chapter 23 of the Gospel of Matthieu, dedicated to Eckhart zum Drübel);
- Ein schon Tracteclin von der Barmhertzigkeit Gottes (a pretty small treaty on the divine mercy, dedicated to Rosa von Eschau, sister of Adolf von Mittelhausen);
- Ein schöner schrifftlicher Bericht ausz heyliger Schrifft, was DER alt und DER neu Mensch sey (a beautiful report/ratio writes drawn from the Scriptures, on what is the old man and the new man, dedicated to Elisabeth Mittelhausen, woman of Adolf von Mittelhausen);
- Ein Anzeygung was für Gottzlesterung in DER papisten Messz STI (a demonstration of offenses with God which are contained in the mass papist, dedicated to Rosina von Eschau);
- Von dem Zehenden, was darvon usz der Schrifft zu halten sey (Of the dîme, and what it is necessary to consider according to the Writings, 1525, dedicated to Bruder Thomas).
In all its writings, it is made the defender of the central reforming topics, showing good biblical knowledge. While tackling with force the theses papists, there remains enough measured in its polemic These lampoons are an interesting reflection of the movement evangelic of Strasbourg.
With Wasselonne (1525-1536)
Before to have finished the publication even of these lampoons, which are an interesting echo of the movement evangelic of Strasbourg, it is named at the beginning of 1525 Pasteur of Wasselonne, then rural place chief of bailliage of Strasbourg.August 25th, 1529, he writes with Martin Bucer. Keller denounces the lies of his/her colleague of Zehnacker, Johannes Dieterich , concerning the call sent to this one for the parish of Hurtigheim, its alleged relation of the acts of the argument of Baden in 1526, its alleged participation in the argument of Bern, and its alleged argument with the franciscain with Montbeliard. This polemic with Johannes Dieterich , on August 25th, 1529, dates since more than one year. Andreas Cellarius recalls in this letter to Martin Bucer which it sent a petition to the senate of Strasbourg, because it pays since 1525 a pension with the Count Palatine Georges, vice-chancellor of this parish and bishop of Spire.
It publishes in 1530 there small a Catéchisme for children in four layers: Beriecht der Kinder zu Waselnheim in Frag und Antwurt gestelt , unfortunately untraceable. It is very appreciated by the faithful ones of all the area, very many to accommodate the Protestantisme favorably. It remains with Wasselonne until September 1536.
Andreas Keller-Cellarius Marie in 1528 with Rottenburg amndt Neckar with Agnes Eycher .
In Wildberg, in the Black Forest (1536-1562)
Andreas Cellarius continues its ministry with Wildberg, in the Black Forest. Its literary activity is restricted with the translation of theological texts, especially of the reformer Johannes Brenz. In 1542, the of Strasbourg one requires of him to return to be established definitively in their city, but he prefers to remain in the Black Forest, where he becomes superintendant it of the reformed churches. He converts with the Protestant ideas the monks of the cloister of Reuthin, near to his village. He takes part in the principal assemblies of the Protestant church. The ideas and the firm attitude of Cellarius are very apprécisées with the councils evangelists of 1543 and 1544.
Andreas Cellarius takes part with Kaspar Gräter and Jacob Beurlin in the drafting of Confessio Wirttembergica in 1551. During the same year it is destined for a theological assembly with Stuttgart.
It is in Wildberg, in the north of Nagold, in Black Forest which is born one from its sons, Pasteur Georg Keller-Cellarius in 1557. He dies on June 3rd, 1631 with Soultz-under-Forests, the Low-Rhine.
Andreas should not be confused with Andreas Cellarius (astronomer) and especially Martin Cellarius, another alive reformer in the middle of XVIe century which is professor with Basle, with Caelius Segundus and Sebastien Castellion. The calvinists see in him a partisan of Michel Servet. However contraiment with his two friends, it does not seem to have been a writer of the Traité heretics , who appears in 1554.
