Andrea Lilio

Andrea Lilio or Lilli says the Anconitano (Fano close to Ancône, 1555/1570 - Ascoli Piceno, after 1639) is an Italian painter, the last important representative of the Maniérisme during Rome Baroque.

Biography

After having been the pupil of Frederico Barocci, it paints in its birthplace and also in Rome about 1640, always in style mannerist, exceeded in Rome baroque of the moment.

Despite everything, it creates for itself there an aristocratic audience for its allegorical paintings.

It possible that it collaborated in the illustrations of Iconologie ( Iconologia overo Descrittione dell' Imagini universali - 1593) of Cesare Ripa, became since a source of reasons and emblems.

In the vault of the Annunciation of the Chiesa Nuova , it paints Saint Michel Archangel driving out the fallen angels of the Paradise . It continues during the reign of the pope Clément VIII, the decoration of churches and convents in Rome.
