Andrea de Jorio (1769 - 1851) was a Professor, a Archéologue and a Linguiste Italy N born on the island of Ischia in the gulf of Naples, in Italy.

Biography

De Jorio was Chanoine of the Cathédrale of Naples, it wrote in connection with most recent discovered on the traditional Antiquité close to Naples, like Pompéi, Herculanum and Cumae. It is more known for its book, the mimica degli antichi investigate nel gestire napoletano , published in 1832 and which was the first the gestural work studying Neapolitan one and which remains the reference for the works of the same kind. The book brings back continuity, of traditional times until the present, by showing the similarities between the gestural one of the ancient Greece, observed on old Greek vases, and the gestural one of Neapolitan current. Volume was republished three times in Italy and a translation was made in English by Adam Kendon. There does not exist French version.
