André Stil is a writer French born on April 1st 1921 with Hergnies, in the Northern , dead the September 3rd 2004 with Camélas (the Eastern Pyrenees) at the 83 years age. He was elected member of the Académie Goncourt in 1977.

Biography

Resulting from a very modest working medium, it however could continue its Valencian studies with the college of . At once last the vat, he becomes teacher, which does not prevent it from undertaking a license of letters, then of philosophy. It is of this period which its first contacts with the writing date, more precisely poetry: surrealist young person , it takes part in the activities of a group called the Hand with the Feather , under the glance accessory to Paul Éluard and Pablo Picasso. Resistance and the Release are so important events for him which it gives up poetry to become a realistic writer near to the people. Its first book, heading the “minor” Word comrade , is a collection of tests written starting from 1945 and published in 1949 thanks to Louis Aragon, which also invites it to become editor association of the daily newspaper This Evening . It is as from this period that it starts to write on average a book per annum, rate/rhythm which it almost preserved until its death. The majority of its works are short and much of them are collections of news, forms writing which was particularly expensive to him.

Member of the French Communist party, to which it had adhered during Resistance, André Stil wrote during a few years of the militant works, in the purest tradition of the Romance jdanovien, but as of the years 1950 it decides to separate its literary work from its militant activities. As a militant, it was during twenty years member of the Central committee of the Communist party, and during ten years editor association of Humanity . He was also member of the Mouvement of peace.

In addition to his novels and news, André Stil is the author of six dramatic for television (1973-1980), of accounts for youth, and some historical works, in particular When Robespierre and Danton invented France . He lived since the years 1970 in the Eastern Pyrenees, where he had made build a house with the hamlet of Vallcrosa (commune of Camélas). Its passion for the literature had of equal only that for the set of failures, and one of its best memories is to have been able to dispute a simultaneous part against Garry Kasparov, to which it had posed many problems before being inclined.
