Whereas it law Combes prohibiting any teaching with the members of a congregation (1904) and the Law of the separation of the Church and the State (1905) is voted, it writes a vibrating test on the Canadian company in which it denounces the denominational schools as well as the ambient religious influence. Initially criticized by the theologist Dominique-Ceslas Gonthier, his work is perceived today like a faithful reflection of difficult the last monk.

He publishes in 1913 his famous work political Tableau of France of the west under the Third Republic , in which he seeks to show the influence of geology on the vote of French of the Vendée under the first forty years of the third Republic. According to him, the north of the Vendée is granitic, which leads to a strong rurality, a dispersion of the dwellings, and thus with a strong influence of notable and Catholicism. However the north of this area votes on the right. South of the Vendée, limestone, which has brought closer dwellings and thus a less important weight of the church votes on the left under the first years of the third Republic. Siegfried of deduced its famous law the granite votes on the right, and limestone votes on the left. Its work was often décriée like too simplistic. If it is true that Siegfried is interested especially in the weight of geology, it does not remain about it less one of the pioneers of political sociology in the world.
