André Rouveyre is born on March 29th 1879 with Paris in the XVIIè district. Andre, Louis, Marie are deceased on December 18th 1962 with Barbizon. He was writer, journalist, portraitist and caricaturist.
It is especially known to have been the friend of childhood of Henri Matisse. 136 letters were exchanged between the two men who had known themselves in the workshop of Gustave Moreau in 1896. It is especially the First World War which joins together them in the South when they took refuge. Their friendship enables them to work on " Apollinaire. " Andre written Rouveyre and famous Henri Matisse of 7 lithographies, their work appears into 1953 with the editions Raisons to be; previously, they had produced in 1947, " Repli" , stencil key set, 12 lithographies and linogravures appeared with the Editions Ram.
It is especially the exposure of 2005 to the Museum of Luxembourg which puts in advance their complicity, " Matisse, One second vie" where letters and a portrait of Rouveyre are presented to the public of Paris. Modigliani also painted Rouveyre. The talents of journalist of Rouveyre are famous for its sterile polemic with Paul Claudel. It crunched the writer in four drawings published by the Mercure de France following the first of its parts including in 1914, " Otage".
Rouveyre circulated in a cosmopolitan medium and it finishes its days in the stronghold of the impressionists, in Barbizon in forest of Fontainebleau. It bequeathed its correspondence with Matisse and Gide but also it had entrusted since 1940, a ptolémaïque Momie of a dancer of the time of Ptolémée IV deceased between 212 and 200 of our era to the town hall of Fontainebleau.
