Andre Maurício Vieira de Carvalho
André Maurício Vieira de Carvalho is a Botaniste Brésil IEN, born the October 5th 1951 with Pontal in Ilhéus and dead the November 16th 2002 with Ilhéus, Bahia of Tuberculose.
He is the son of Antonio Alciato Berbert de Carvalho, grower of cocoa, and Maria Angélica born Vieira. He makes his studies with the college evangelic of Lavras and at the university of agriculture of Lavras. He is graduate of Agronomie in 1977. In 1978 - 1979, it works in the Botanical garden of Rio de Janeiro and is formed then with vegetable taxonomy in particular near Graziela Maciel Barroso (1912-2003), one of the Brazilian botanists most important of the 20th century.
It joined in 1979 Comissão Executiva C Plano da Lavoura Cacaueira (CEPLAC) and works in the Herbier, then directed by Scott A. Mori (1941-). He becomes the conservative at the time of the departure of this last for the the United States. He takes part in the first forwardings led by Raymond Mervyn Harley (1936-) in the center of Bahia. In 1984, it leaves five years to study with the Université of Reading in order to obtain its doctorate. He works with the botanists of the royal Botanical gardens of Kew, in particular Gwilym Peter Lewis (1952-) and Simon Joseph Mayo (1949-). He supports his doctorate in 1989 under the direction of David Moresby Moore (1933-). Its thesis was entitled Systematic studies off the genus “Dalbergia” L.f in Brazil .
To its return to Bahia, it gives an international dimension to the activity of the herbarium of the CEPEC. In 1990, it starts to collaborate with William Wayt Thomas (1951-) of the Botanical garden of New York in a study of the coastal forests of the south of Bahia.
Its harvests contribute to make known twenty-four new S. Of many botanists dedicated to him of the species. American
