Andre Laurendeau
André Laurendeau (March 21st 1912 with Montreal - June 1st 1968) is a Romancier, Dramaturge, Essayiste, Journaliste and politician Québécois.
Biography
As of 1933, it founds with some friends the movement of the “Young person-Canada” and collaborates in the review the National action directed by his/her father. In 1935, it will study philosophy and social sciences with Paris. Returned to Quebec, it directs the National action of 1937 to 1943 and 1949 to 1953.In 1942, it launches out in policy to be opposed to the conscription, within the League for the defense of Canada, then it takes part in the foundation of the Canadian popular Bloc, a party of center-left of which he becomes soon the provincial chief in Quebec, Maxime Raymond while being the federal chief. André Laurendeau is appointed in Quebec of 1944 to 1948.
Editor association associated in 1947, editor association in 1957 of the daily newspaper the Duty , it joins closely the fight against Maurice Duplessis, then with the national assertion of Quebec during the “Quiet revolution”.
He is known to have spread the word Joual. He is also stimulating with the radio and the Télévision of Radio-Canada, of 1953 with 1961. July 4th, 1958, it publishes a traditional leading article which will be used as a basis ideological to the liberals and to souverainists of the following years.
Of 1963 until its death, it jointly chairs with Davidson Dunton the royal Commission (federal) on the Bilinguisme and the bicultural tradition. It is nowadays a reference for the questions of education, Politique and company.
It attached a great importance to education and in the future of the young people. Are named in its honor: a cégep with City LaSalle (Montreal), a school with Saint-Hubert and another in Ottawa.
