Andre Joseph Guillaume Henri Kostermans

André Joseph Guillaume Henri Kostermans is a Botaniste Dutch, born on July 1st 1906 with Purworejo (Java) and dead the July 10th 1994 in Indonesia.

Biography

It makes its studies with the Université of Utrecht where it obtains its doctorate with a thesis on the Lauraceae of the Surinam. It passes the essence of its career to study the plants of the Southeast Asia to the Botanical garden of Buitenzorg then to Bogor (Indonesia). It takes part in the drafting of a certain number of S of the Flora off Suriname of August Adriaan Pulle (1878-1955). Kostermans is interested mainly in Lauraceae, the Malvales (Bombacaceae and Sterculiaceae), and in the Dipterocarpaceae. At the end of its life, it is interested in the Asian Anacardiaceae. Large worker, it makes appear many publications.

Wertit Soegeng-Reksodihardjo (1935-) dedicated the to him Kostermansia of the family of Bombacaceae and Carolin Kathryn Allen (1904-1975) the species Cryptocarya kostermansiana .

Kostermans is victim of a Heart attack in March 1991. In a letter with the one of his friends, he writes in April 1991 that it wishes to put the last hand at a large manuscript on the mango S (69 species), but it points out that he will have chance if it will be able to arrive there. Kostermans will live long enough to see the publication of its book at Academic Close in 1993. He dies in Indonesia the following year.
