Andre Joseph Boussart

Andre Joseph Boussart , born with Binche, in Hainaut, the November 13rd 1758, general French.

It was useful initially in the Austrian troops; but the disorders of the Belgium recalled it soon in its fatherland, where it was useful, in the capacity as captain, until in 1791. At that time it passed under the French flags.

Major to the 20th dragons in 1793, it passed in Italy and pointed out itself there. Appointed chief of brigade, it followed Napoleon Bonaparte in Egypt and was announced in all the meetings. Returned in France with the Brigadier general rank of , it made with distinction the Campagne of Prussia; but it is especially in Spain that it gave evidence of a bright bravery.

Charged in 1810 with stopping the general O'Donnell who sought to release Lérida besieged by the French troops, he united it, attacked it with as well impetuosity as the overflowed enemy columns could not be put on line and fled in the most dreadful disorder.

The attempt at Bassecourt on the Camp of Vinaros provides to Boussard a new occasion of glory; it melted on the attackers with the head of some squadrons of cuirassiers, inserted them and continued them until Benicarlos. With the Battle of Sagonte, the enemy cavalry had seized our parts and made control on the columns which supported them; Boussard runs, springs on the Spaniards, the saber, takes again our guns and removes artillery of the attackers themselves. As this intrepid general attacked without counting them all the enemies whom it had at the head, it meets twenty Spanish squadrons battles about it in front of Torrente; it had with him only one about sixty hussard S, and however it makes sound the load and precipitates on the enemy with an abandonment without example; but disproportion was too large; it is surrounded, covered with blows of saber, and had perished without the general Delort who released it. Named Major general the March 16th 1812, but exhausted, covered of scars, it came to Bagnères-with-Bigorre to be restored there, and died there the August 11th 1813.
