The Compositeur French André Jolivet was born with Paris the August 8th 1905 and died in Paris the December 20th 1974.

Biography

After studies with the Teacher training school teachers of Paris, Jolivet was pupil of Paul Flem then of Edgard Varèse. In 1935, the public discovered it thanks to Mana , collection of six parts for Piano. In 1936, with Yves Cross-belt, Jean Yves Daniel-Lesur and Olivier Messiaen, it created “Young France”, groups intended to promote the new French music. Of 1943 with 1959, he was leader of the Comédie-Française and wrote many compositions of circumstance. Between 1959 and 1962, it was adviser technical with the direction of Arts and letters. Of 1965 with 1971, he was professor of composition to the Conservatoire of Paris.

Its work

Jolivet used the resources modern technologies to compose an energetic music, often modal with sonorities and the daring rates/rhythms. It stuck particularly to the writing concerting with Concerto S virtuosos for Ondes Martenot - electronic instrument with keyboard invented in France in 1928 by Maurice Martenot -, for trumpet and Piano, for Flûte, piano, Harpe, Basson and grips, percussion, Violoncelle and Violon. One also owes him of the Symphonie S and the music of Ballet - on texts of Molière, Claudel, Corneille or Plaute - and for plays of Marionnette S.
