André Girard was born with Cahors the April 22nd 1909 and deceased with Lyon the June 4th 1993. He was a senior official French and a leader of the French Résistance.
Biography
André Girard was, under the pseudonym " Pointer" , the regional chief of a clandestine network of information in occupied France of 1940 to 1945, the network Alliance or Arch of Noah, only network directed by a woman, Marie-madeleine Fourcade (Alias " Hérisson").
This network had as a specificity the names of animals carried by the near total of its 3.000 agents: Blue of Auvergne, Setter, Labrador, Bichon, Bee, Eagle… Cut out by areas, the network was directed for the credit district " Hôpital" (sector Mid-west) and this, of 1943 at September 1944, by Andre Girard. Its sector counted in June 1944 185 principal agents distributed on 16 departments of the south of the Loire in the north of the Garonne, sector particularly marked by the massacres of Tulle (19) and of Oradour-on-Glane (87).
These agents resulted from the most various social categories: the colonel of reserve mayor of La Rochelle Leonce Vieljeux, studying it Roland Creel, the vicar of the Tulle cathedral Charles Lair, the doctor custom Jean Sirieix, the police chief of the General informations Henry Castaing, the employee of trade brivist Pierre Border, the general secretary of the town hall of Guéret Roland Deroubaix, the lawyer creusois Rene Nouguès or the electrician Vincent Renaud but also of the civils servant, peasants, surgeons, railwaymen, architects, ushers…
André Jean Louis Girard was born the April 22nd 1909 with Cahors (46); writer with the administration of the Tobaccos since 1929, it exerted his functions, after his capture with Dunkirk in June 1940 and his escape from Germany in 1941, with Brive-the-Strapping woman (19) and quickly joined the rows of the Army of the shades.
The June 30th 1945, operations manager of 1st class (compare to the rank of captain) of the Head office of the studies and research, it was demobilized with its request. Transferred in its administration of origin, it was transferred to the manufacture of the Tobaccos of Riom (63) then became administrative director and inspector of the manufacture of the Tobaccos of Lyon (63) until its retirement. It also succeeded Jacques Soustelle at the municipal council of Lyon in 1962 during mandature of Louis Pradel.
Deceased the June 4th 1993 with Mulatière, commune bordering on Lyon, and buried in the cemetery of Saint-Save of Auvergne (63), André Girard was during many years the national treasurer of Friendly of old of the network Alliance. It published its memories of war in 1965 with the editions France-Empire under the title " The time of Méprise".
To note the existence of a homonym, founder of the clandestine network " Carte" and without relationship with the resistant present.
