Andre Chouraqui

Nathan Andre Chouraqui (born the August 11th 1917 with Ain Témouchent, Algeria and dead the July 9th 2007 with Jerusalem), was a lawyer, writer, thinker and politician free - Israeli, known for its translation of the Bible , whose publication, starting from the Années 1970, revolutionized the reading of the holy Book.

Biography

It passed its childhood to Algeria where it in particular learned with its Rabbin the Torah which it by heart knew in Hebrew. The weather then was studies in France where it joined the resistance.

André Chouraqui was lawyer, then judge in the spring of the Court of Appeal in Algiers (1945 - 1947). He is promoted, in 1948, Doctor in public International law with the Université of Paris.

In 1958, André Chouraqui settles in Israel and in 1965, it was elected Vice-Mayor of Jerusalem.

In 1987, appears its integral translation of the bible in French in 26 volumes, starting from the Hebraic text initial, of which parts had been published starting from the Années 1970. Marc Leboucher, who was the first to publish this text in France, at Desclée De Brouwer, estimates that André Chouraqui adopted in his work “a party taken revolutionary, which allowed to redécouvrir texts that one believed worn” and that “it especially clarified the importance of the Jewish roots of the Christianisme and recalled that Jesus belonged to the Jewish people. ”

In 1990, it publishes a translation of the Coran.

Assistant general secretary of the Alliance Universal Jew (1947-1953), André Chouraqui will become the permanent Delegate about it, under the presidency of Rene Cassin (1947-1982). He was also President of the Alliance Fran1caise of Jerusalem.

In February 1990, is published the strong Love like Death, autobiography of Andre Chouraqui who will be ultra-médiatisée and will be sold immediately with more than 100.000 specimens. The same year it publishes in the same editor his translation of Coran (text and comments) and meets the Dalaï Lama.

He was member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and Non-violence.
