Andorran federation of Rugby with XV
The Fédération Andorra of Rugby to XV (Federació Andorrana de Rugby or FAR) is an organization member of the International Rugby Board (IRB) which governs the organization of Rugby with XV in Andorra.
It gathers the autonomous federations, the clubs, associations, the sportsmen, the trainers, the referees, to contribute to the practice and the development of Rugby with XV in all the Andorran territory.
History
Rugby does not have the popularity of football or the basketball… France always wove bonds with Andorra and Catalonia: exchange between Catalans, influence of the colleges and the French colleges…
The Andorran Federation of Rugby with XV (FAR), which was the first Andorran Federation of a collective sport, was founded in 1985 and it became full member of IRB in 1991. Andorra occupies around the 60e place with official world classification. Andorra disputed its first international match on November 8th, 1987 vis-a-vis the Luxembourg, which it beat 22-3. Andorra was promoted with the Group B of FIRA in 1990 after its historical victory, 9-3, over Yugoslavia in Split. Andorra finished first of its group within the framework of the first turn of qualification to the World cup of Rugby 1999 before meeting the Portugal, the Germany, the Czech Republic and the Spain which was finally qualified.
For the World cup of Rugby 2007, the team succeeded in passing the first two preliminary rounds, it is found in hen has 3rd preliminary round with Spain, the Moldavie, the Netherlands and the Poland. With 4 defeats, it is eliminated at this stage.
