Andonian documents
The documents Andonian are a series of documents of which there remain only reproductions today, including quantified telegrams proving irrefutably, if they are authentic, the bond between the authorities of the Ottoman Empire and the massacres of the Armenians which took place lasting the First World War. The establishment of such a bond would make it possible to qualify without ambiguity these massacres of Génocide , although this qualification rest on many other elements such as the conclusions of the lawsuits held in 1919 and 1920, testimonys of the diplomats present on the spot and other documents in particular produced by the Commission Mazhar.
These documents are also known under the name of “ The Memoirs off Naim Bey ”. Published under this English title in 1920, they marked the spirits at the time, in particular playing a part at the time of the lawsuit of the assassin of Talaat Pasha, Soghomon Tehlirian, leading to its payment.
The authenticity of the Andonian documents was hardly called into question until in the Années 1980, when historians Turkish of the Turkish Société of history, Türkkaya Ataöv then Sinasi Orel and Sureyya Yüca, studied the reproductions and raised there of many irregularities. This handing-over in question brought Vahakn Dadrian, historian who specialized in the study of the Armenian genocide, to examine in his turn the reproductions and although also raising of many irregularities, he concludes however with a highly probable authenticity. Gerard Chaliand and Yves Ternon, in particular, approved the conclusions of Dadrian. On the other hand, other historians like the French turcologist Gilles Veinstein, the professor Erik Zürcher, the American historian Michael Mr. Gunter or Andrew Mango reject their authenticity by quoting work of Orel and Yuca.
Other historians put at least questions about their authenticity. Christopher J. Walker before was imbu authenticity of the Andonian documents. The year 1997 however he asserted qu'" there are necessary to remain doubts until the reappearance of the documents or the similar documents and the publication of an edition critique". The Austrian scientist Wolfdieter Bihl indicated the documents as " controversé". Guenter Lewy writes that " the controversy on the authenticity of the Naim-Andonian documents vait to solve only by the discovery and publication of the depending Othoman documents, and perhaps it can in any way passer". Lewy wire-drawer that " hitherto exactly analyzes of Orel and of Yuca on the documents put sufficient questions about their authenticity which the weather is unacceptable the application of the documents as serious scientists travails".
Guenter Lewy respects the analysis of Dadrian. But Lewy says that Dadrian wants to prove the authenticity of the Andonian documents by the method of the " checking of the contenu" (Dadrian uses the documents of the council of war organized has Istanbul 1919/20 for its proof). Lewy says that this method is problematic because the documents of the council of war of 1919/20 have also problems.
