Andlau
Andlau is a common French, located in the department of the the Low-Rhine and the area Alsace.
Geography
The village is located in the valley of the Andlau on the buttress of the the Vosges. Its communes bordering are Mittelbergheim in the North-East, Eichhoffen in the east and Bernardvillé in the south.
History
The village is undoubtedly already ocupé at the time Gallo-Roman E. Then it is around the founded abbey of moniales into 880 by Sainte Richarde, girl of the known Count of Alsace under the name of Erchangar that the village develops. Sainte Richarde marries thereafter the emperor Charles the Large, small son of Louis Débonnaire. This abbey was placed initially at the Saint-Saver and followed the rule of Saint-Benoît which accepted the protection of the pope. A pilgrimage was dedicated very early to the Virgin Mary in the Crypte of the church where the Chanoinesse S met each day to request.
With the XIVe century a tower - often confused with the castle of Spesbourg - is attested to belong to noble of Dicka. Between XIIIe and XIVe century four castle are built in Andlau. One of these castle is that of Wibelsberg-Crax of which there remains only some vestiges. Built between 1232 and 1249 it is demolished first once by Eberhard d' Andlau, then rebuilt starting from 1293. It takes then the name of Château of Crax, but is definitively demolished in 1298 on order of the bishop of Strasbourg. The lords d' Andlau strengthen the city in XVe century. In 1695 the Forester of Andlau, Frantz Ettighoffen, keep silent one of the last bears of the the Vosges. In the middle of the XIXe century, Andlau counts eighteen more Moulin S. the commune is surrounded by Forêt S and Vigne S.
