Anders Jonas Ångström (August 13rd 1814, Lögdö (Medelpad) - June 21st 1874, Uppsala (Uppland)) was a Astronome and Physicien Swedish and one of the founders of the Spectroscopie.

Ångström made its studies with the Université of Uppsala, where it obtained its dipôme of teacher of physics in 1839. It went then to the Observatoire of Stockholm with an aim of acquiring experiment as regards Astronomie, and was indicated director of the observatory of Uppsala a few years later. While carrying its interest on the terrestrial Magnétisme it made several observations relating to the variations of Intensité of magnetic field in various places of Sweden.

A.J. Ångström was a pioneer in the study of the spectra. He discovered, in 1862, the presence of Hydrogène in the atmosphere of the Sun.

  • Its name was given to the Ångström, of symbol: Å, measuring unit length of Wave used for very small atomic or molecular dimensions, corresponding to 10-10 meter.
