Anders Jahan Retzius or Andreas Johann Retzius is a Botaniste, a Chimiste and a Entomologiste Swedish, born the October 3rd 1742 with Kristianstad, dead the October 6th 1821 with Stockholm.

It is registered at the university of Lund in 1758 and obtains a magist of philosophy in 1766. It also receives a formation of Apothicaire. It obtains in 1766 a station of Privatdozent in Chimie and of Natural history in 1767. It obtains extraordinary professor in natural history in 1777 and then occupies various pulpits devoted to this discipline, the economy and chemistry until its retirement in 1812.

It describes many S of Insecte S and completes important work on their classification.

He is the father of the biologist Anders Retzius (1796-1860) and the grandfather of the biologist Gustaf Retzius (1842-1919). Among the pupils of Anders Jahan Retzius, it is necessary to quote the botanist Carl Adolph Agardh (1785-1859), the zoologist and the archeologist Sven Nilsson (1787-1883), the botanist and the entomologist Carl Frederick Fallén (1764-1830) and the entomologist Johan Wilhelm Zetterstedt (1785-1874). He exerts also a great influence on the botanist Elias Magnus Fries (1794-1878) who arrives at Lund whereas Retzius was already old.
