Ancient minuet
The ancient Menuet was written for Piano by Maurice Ravel in 1895 and was orchestrated in 1929 by the musician. It was composed in homage to Emmanuel Chabrier which had accommodated with benevolence its first works.
The creation of the pianistic version took place on April 18th 1898 by Ricardo Viñes, an old friend of the musician, who was the dedicatee of this composition and which also created other works of Ravel. The first of the orchestral version took place on January 11th 1930.
It is noted that taken again Ravel the form minuet in other later works: central movement of its sonatine and fifth movement of the the Tomb of Couperin .
