Anchorage is a city of the the United States, located in the State of the Alaska. In 2004 it counted more: 272687 inhabitants, which makes of it the most populated city of Alaska by almost gathering half of the population of the State.

Anchorage is located at the south of the central part of Alaska, with 61 degrees of northern Latitude, that is to say appreciably on the same level as Stockholm and Saint-Pétersbourg.

The city is built on a triangular Péninsule, bordered in the east by the savages Monts Chugach . It has an international airport. It is an important port, and the turntable of the network of Railroad of Alsaka (Alaska Railroad). The economy developed around the public and military activities (there are two important bases in the vicinity), of the Pétrole and the Tourisme (in summer period).

At the beginning of the 20th century, Anchorage was only one modest village of tents for the labor working on the construction of the railroad. During the summer, the diurnal temperature is rather lenient (between 13 and 21 °C). The winter, the averages are much weaker (- 7 to -15 degrees), and the city is often covered by a thick snowy coat.

One generally recognizes in Alaska and Anchorage slackened an enough environment, compared with the other American cities. User-friendliness is developed there than elsewhere, and this city is also a ground of immigration, coming from Asia, of Europe of the east and Hispanic communities. The city knew a Earthquake on March 27th 1964, of magnitude 9,2. There were important landslides, and Tsunami devastated the Fjord S around. This catastrophe (the '' Good Friday Earthquake '') cost the life 125 people, and since, the height of the buildings is limited on 21 floors.

In spite of the limited space of the peninsula on which Anchorage is built, the city knew to preserve many green areas, which makes it attractive to those which like nature. The cultural life is there also very active, in particular musical point of view. One finds there a symphony orchestra, a company of opera as well as of the Irish traditional Musique. There exist two principal museums: Anchorage Museum off History and Art and Alaska Native Center Heritage.

The airport of Anchorage is the sixth of the world and the fourth of the United States for the freight, which rose in 2003 to 2,07 million tons.
