Anchor Brewing Company

Anchor Brewing Company is a specialized company in the manufacture of Bière and spirits based with San Francisco, in California. Founded in 1896, the Brasserie was repurchased in 1965 by its current owner, Fritz Maytag (Frederick Louis Maytag III for the registry office), which moved it at its current address in 1979. It is the only brewery to produce commercially the Bière vapor ( steam beer ), also called California common beer .

History

Anchor Brewing Company is often regarded as the company leader of the movement of the Microbrasserie S with the the United States. When the Prohibition ends, of many small American breweries could reopen and take again their production. The great majority then sells their beer only in the immediate surroundings of their place of production. In 1993, the company opened Anchor Distillery, a operative Microdistillerie in the same establishment as the brewery, producing a whiskey rye individual malt, the Old Potrero, named according to the hill of San Francisco where it is produced. The microdistillery produces also a gin since 1997, Junípero, a remote reference to the Spanish exploring monk, Junípero Serra.

The establishment can be visited in week, only for groups and on go.

Fritz Maytag is also owner of the field York Creek Vineyards, a producer of Vin to horse on the counties of Napa and Sonoma.
