Ancón

The dictrict of Ancón is one of the 43 districts of the Province of Lima to the Peru. It was created the October 29th 1874. It is about a Seaside resort old located at approximately 40 kilometers in the north of the Historical center of Lima and accessible by the Pan-American Northern.

The district has a total Superficie of 299,22 km ².

Demography

In 2002, the district was populated of: 30725 inhabitants (estimate of INEI) with one population density of 102,7 habitants/km ². In 1999, one counted 5.811 households in the district.

Beach

The sea is particularly quiet in this sector, it practically does not have there waves, which at sea facilitates the damping of the pleasure boats where on the mole of the Yacht Club Ancón created in 1950.

On the great walk of seaside the modern buildings and the private mansions mix with the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

History

Archeology

Ancón is an important site for Peruvian archeology. Prehistoric Ancón was a village of fishermen, much of nets were found at the same time as woven fiber baskets. But especially one found a Nécropole there civilizations précolombiennes which are succeeded in the area (Maranga-Lima, Huari, Pachacamac and especially Chancay). At this place, the slopes of gravel and the ground sandy were strewn with cranium S, bone and remainders of torn clothing. Under surface, the plunderers of tombs found bodies momifiés accompanied by various objects in not very deep tombs. In this area, the safeguarding of the bodies is ensured by the dry climate and also, says one, by the Salpêtre and other elements contained in the ground. At the end of the XIXe century, the archeologists discovered bodies sometimes armadillo are, with pearls, earrings in Cuivre and feathers of bird, wrapped in covers or clothing of richly coloured Coton, with earthenware jars of provisions at their sides. Fabrics tended on wood and painted reasons and characters described the virtues of the late ones.

In 1870, the extension of the Railroad towards Chancay made easily accessible to visitors the one day old the necropolis from Ancón. The German geologists Reiss and Stubel directed excavations in Ancón for the period 1874 - 1875 because they feared that the excavations do not deteriorate the site completely. In 1884, Stolpe directed new excavations on behalf of the National museum of Ethnology of Stockholm.

Seaside resort

The seaside resort was created at the XIXe century because its sandy ground and its dry atmosphere made of it a pleasant place for the people reached of lung diseases or bronchial. Close to the beach, in 1913, there were a tennis court, one or two hotels and much of villas. The voyage by train from the station of Desamparados with Lima took approximately an hour and half through desert extents. The line had been built in 1870. Until the Years 1960, Ancón was the seaside resort more the appraisal of Lima. After one crisis period which lasted until the Années 1990, the sea front of Ancón is in the course of restoration and regained the favors of the liméniens.

The Traité of Ancón, which put an end to the Guerre of the Pacific, was signed the October 20th 1883, which yielded Tarapacá to the Chile.

Since 2005, the district of Ancón is the seat of the prison of Piedras Gordas, most modern of Peru.
