Anau
Anau is an archeological site currently located at the Turkménistan, close to Achkhabad. Its archaeological levels go from the end of the Neolithic at the beginning of the Âge of Iron.
History
Anau was excavated since 1904 by the American geologist Raphaël Pumpelly and was used a long time as chronological reference in its area for the periods that it represents, before being made replace by Namazga-depe, much more important in the face. Anau is in fact a secondary site of row, its importance being especially due to the fact that its excavation was one of the first carried out in this area, and with been used as a basis for Pumpelly with to develop the " theory of the oasis" , recovery later by Vere Gordon Childe.
Sequence
Anau is divided into two such. Four archaeological levels were released.- oldest, Anau I, are divided into two under-periods.
- Anau I has (contemporary of Namazga I and II) corresponds at the end of the Neolithic era. Houses were put at the day, as well as objects in Silex and painted Céramique. The inhabitants of the site of this period cultivate the Blé and the Orge.
- level I B (correspondent with Namazga III), mark the passage of the Neolithic era to the Chalcolithique.
- This one develops with the level II (Namazga IV), on which one found some objects in Cuivre. A pottery with the turn appears, monochromic of gray or red color. Anau is destroyed at the end of period II, in the neighborhoods of 2700 av. J. - C.
- the site is re-occupied at the beginning of the old Bronze Age, towards 2400, corresponding to Anau III, badly known.
- the last level, Anau IV, date of the beginnings of the Age of Iron. It presents similarities with level I of the site of Yaz-depe. One found for this period some iron sickles, attesting the presence of an agricultural establishment.
