A martial art (the martial adjective is derived from the Latin god Mars, god of the war) is generally a teaching of a Technique of combat and knowledge and the Self-control. The most popular martial arts in Europe and America are Japanese or Chinese, but of the similar schools exist in many areas and cultures. The Histoire of martial arts goes back to the first ages of humanity and results in a complex system of diffusion among the cultures of the world.
The use of the " term; art martial" related to the Japanese martial disciplines initially; those use, in their practices, a share of technique and a share very developed of philosophy close to the religion preparing with death. This name considered flattering then was seen applied to all martial disciplines of all countries, even if those do not have of a spiritual size. Although the use martial art spread, " should rather be included/understood; sport martial" or " discipline martiale" in a sporting practice or of study of combat.
Definition
In a literal way, “martial art” means with military utility, any discipline used for the combat, to attack or defend themselves. However the term martial art under hears an origin Asiatique, the French fencing is seldom quoted like martial art.
Presentation
Old martial arts
Currently, that which practices martial arts does not have as an main objective to overcome, to wound or badly make with its adversary. It should however be admitted that martial arts have the role to learn from the techniques making it possible to immobilize, to kill and wound. At our modern time this possibility is extraordinary and the use of these Technique S can occur only on rare and extreme occasions. Consequently, today more than yesterday, the search for a better self-control and of its environment is paramount. It is what distinguishes martial arts from the sports of combat whose dangerous techniques were expurgées. However, it is not a question either of a kind of gymnastics or of dance because the study of martial arts leaves a great place to the research of the martial effectiveness (placement with respect to the adversary, evaluation of the distance, precision and power of the blows, economy of the forces).
In spite of the current distinction between martial arts, founded on a research of the perfection, and the sports of combat, more directed towards the Competition and having direct contacts, these two human activities have close links and rise historically from the same concerns of defense and drain of violence. Even in the most violent competitions of the sports of combat, the respect of the adversary, the rules and the referee cannot be forgotten. And if the sports of contact are close to the “real” combat, with concepts of surprise, strategy, pretense and a real sanction with the error (the pain, even the wound), they move away from there in the direction where the two adversaries must employ the same technique and show honesty, notions often absent from the simple street battle.
Martial arts are however centered on a study of movements of the type forms (called Kata (S) in the Japanese arts, aka S in the Burmese Martial arts, Taolu S in the Chinese arts, still trao or quyen (delivery kuènne) in Vietnamese arts) and are direct involvements in the total Combat, because the attacks and parades are dependant with smoothness to produce the greatest controlling authority with the minimum of effort. The absence of real intention to harm makes it possible to work of the more dangerous situations such as the confrontation with naked hands against a Couteau or a saber. The practice of an martial art is not limited to very many sequences, even if they are an important pole of the transmission. The practice of these arts improperly translated by “martial” can lead with happiness to other attitudes, like the rites, the sports, the traditions.
The Capoeira, with horse between Dance of combat and martial art, is an good example of the variety of the disciplines which martial arts include.
Although there exists a basic difference between martial art and sport of combat, the two sporting and martial fields will equitably be represented.
History of martial arts of the South, South-east and Is Asian
The oldest forms of martial arts of these areas, still known today, according to the writings, find their origin in India with in particular the Kalaripayat, and would be very related to arts of the traditions Buddhist hindouist and .
Indeed, according to the tradition, in the Years 510 of our era, a prince called Bodhidharma or Da Mo, wire of the râja Sugandha, born with Kanchipuram, capital of the dynasty of the Pallava in the south of India, had founded close to Kottayam, to the Kerala, the first school of Kalaripayat, then had left then for China, where it founded a school of Kung-fu to the monastery of Shaolin. At the end of its life, it definitively set on the Mont Tung Its where it created the educational establishment of the virtues and techniques of the Võ-Lâm. Bodhidharma is regarded as the creator of the Buddhist school Ch' year of China and of Buddhism Zen of Japan where it is known under the name of Bodai Daruma .]]
Many forms then developed in China of the South, in particular with the Tibet, or in the Hubei, with internal martial arts related to philosophy taoist, like the Taiji quan.
In parallel of other arts of combat developed in the South-East Asia , and in particular thanks to the shifts in population and monk, Burma as of (Thaing or Bando, Banshay, Lethwei, Naban), Thailand (Krabi krabong, Thai Muay), Laos, etc
Later, they were spread in Korea and with the Japan, where appeared more modern forms at the 19th century like the Tae Kwon Do, the Karaté or the Judo.

Goju karate, characterized by natural positions, includes/understands modes of strike and often circular displacements, aiming at the vital, together with points projections and luxations. JU: “flexible” for the parade or dodging and “hard” GO in striking. Osamu Hirano brought there more flexibility and of fluidity. Between all the Katas of Goju-Ryu, the Kata “Sanchin” became less sound and loses its very imposing contractions, but was seen lengthened and rate/rhythm like a true exercise of Yoga. This style is represented in Belgium by Shihan Ali Azizi and Belgian Goju-Ryu Karate-C Organization. This school is also at the base of a pedagogy adapted for handikaratékas suffering of problems of mobility. The style Gôjû Ryû was in particular revisited to be able to be carried out in wheelchair. One speaks, then, of Undõ Goju-Ryu Karate-C or Undõ Goju.

Martial arts Chinese
In Chinese, one indicates them under the name of Wushu (pinyin). “Wu”: martial (character broken up into 2 parts meaning “to stop the lance”), having milked with the military and warlike aspect; “Shu”: art, discipline, matter.
The Chinese term gong fu ( Kung Fu confined of it), means level , art but also effort , it is not the name of an martial art. It is about a bad Western interpretation certainly due mainly to the films of Kung fu come from Hong-Kong.
The distinction between external Boxings (Waija) and internal Boxes (Neijia) is a distinction recent (end 19th century). The external way would be supposed to stress the physical force and the internal way on the mobilization of internal energy (IQ). This distinction was built at the end of the 19th century and fits generally in confrontation between the Western designs of the body (medical, anthropological, mechanical, etc) and the Chinese designs (taoist and Buddhist).
Traditionally, there was no distinction between the 2 ways, but only of the designs different of approaches of the practice.
there exists also the chin Na also written quin Na which is a Chinese martial art of articular control.
External boxings: Waijia
They are called in Chinese: waijia Pinyin : wai (external), and jia (school), therefore external school. There exist very many styles and such many alternatives or branches. Example: the style Cha quan is subdivided in 3 distinct branches and each branch in schools. It would be illusory and have-history to believe that the styles did not influence the ones the others. The syncretism of the styles is of rule but their changes, by the contribution of religious elements (dance of the crane of the shamanism, dances in circle of the taoism, etc) or of medical designs, too.

internal Boxings: Neijia
In Chinese they are called: neijia, Pinyin: nèi (interior) and jia (school).List styles, to see: Wushu
IQ Gong
IQ Gong (“pinyin”: “qì gōng”, Lagging-Gilles] Ch' I Kung, according to the transliteration Wade Gilles)) (in Japanese: Kikô), work of energy or vital breath called IQ or Japanese Chi (: Ki).This approach is directly related to the Chinese Médecine and Ayurveda, and is essential in Asian martial arts by the development which it induces. As well on the physical level, of health as spirituality, IQ Gong joins together various physical exercises, of which some aim at returning the circulation of the free IQ in the body in order to avoid the disease, to cure then to develop its capacities.
Each style of Wushu developed the specific IQ Gong to its characteristics. It would be erroneous to believe that only the internal styles integrate the practice of the IQ Gong.
IQ Gong means “work of internal energy”. The teaching of the IQ Gong can have two objectives: 1 discipline of the wellbeing, it is taught in order to reinforce internal energy. It is a component of the MTC. 2 base of martial arts, it can be also learned how to harden the body in particular in the engagements. Discipline of all the body, it allows by a regular practice to find as well a better balance, physical as emotional by: 1 the control of the movement, naturalness, slow and slackened. 2 the control of slow and synchronous breathing with the gesture. 3 the control of the thought, which directs the IQ, the breath, inside the body.

Certain Vietnamese martial arts know a Chinese influence, the majority are of origin purely Vietnamese. In Vietnam they are divided into two federations: Vo Co Truyen which indicate the traditional disciplines and gather a multitude of schools to the varied techniques and Vovinam Viet Vo CAD which is a modern discipline created in the middle of the 20th century. In Europe it is agreed to call Vo Thuat Vietnam the whole of Vietnamese Martial arts.
