Etienne (Jean Rochefort), forty, groom, faithful, happy father (groom with Marthe), fall in love insane with Charlotte (Anny Duperey), an young woman, just entraperçue, vêtue of red. It shares the passion of tennis with his three better friends, Simon, Daniel and Bouly. Simon (Guy Bedos) is doctor and choked by the perpetual intrusions of his mother (Marthe Villalonga), caricatures of mother abusive Pied-noir E, in his life. Daniel (Claude Brasseur), mechanic, does not manage a long time any more to hide with his friends only it is homosexual. Bouly (Victor Lanoux), unrepentant seducer, falls from top when he discovers that his wife left the marital home with pieces of furniture and children. Etienne, although scorning the runners, succumbs finally to the charms of his unknown beauty but this one quickly makes him understand that it will be an adventure without a future. The film is largely commented on in voice off by Jean Rochefort, and contrast between what it presents (always with its advantage) and what one sees constitutes one within the comic competences of film.
