Aníbal Cavaco Silva
Aníbal António Cavaco Silva (Boliqueime, Loulé, July 15th 1939) is a Politician Portuguese. Prime Minister of 1985 with 1995, it became the 19th President of the Republic of the Portugal the March 9th 2006.
Professor of economy at the university of York, it is named Minister for Finance in 1980. In 1985 he becomes chief of the social democrat Parti (PSD, center-right) at 45 years, causing the end of the coalition of government between Socialist party (left) and PSD.
It was Prime Minister Portugal of November 6th 1985 at October 28th 1995. It is the Prime Minister who controlled longest with the Portugal. Its mandate was marked by a policy of fall of taxes and economic deregulation. The Portugal knew during this period an economic strong growth. It is as during its mandate as the Portugal integrated the European Union.
The January 22nd 2006, it is elected with the first turn President Portugal, with 50,6% of the voices. It is the first President of the Republic of right-hand side since the falls of the dictatorship in 1974.
