Amyclées
Amyclées (in Greek old Ἀμύκλαι / Amýklai ) is an old town of Laconie, located on the Eurotas, in the south-east of Sparte. It would have been founded by Amyclas, one of wire of Lacédémon.
The tradition makes of it the residence of Tyndare and its sons, the Dioscures. After its conquest by Sparte, it is the place of the Hyacinthies, festivals in the honor of Apollo. It also holds the throne of Apollon, which for this reason carries the épiclèse of Amyclæus . Work of the sculptor Bathyclès de Magnésie, the throne goes up in the middle of sixth century BC. It represents the Travaux of Héraclès, its Apothéose and that of Hyacinthe. The throne is surmounted by an antiquated colossal statue and is located on the furnace bridge of the god. Hyacinthe is famous being buried under the Piédestal of the furnace bridge.
Apollo, called “Amuklaios”, had a temple there”.
