Amter of Denmark

Before January 1st 2007, the Denmark was divided into 13 amter (plural of amt , translated into English by county , in French by department in the Danish official sites) and 271 kommuner ( common municipalities or better ). These departments were replaced by new a regional cutting of the country.

Particular cases

Three communes have special privileges: lamt of Copenhagen contains all the communes of the metropolitan Copenhagen, except the communes of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. The regional commune Bornholm is made up of the five old communes of the island of Bornholm and old the amt of the island.

The Greenland ( Grønland ) and the Faroe Islands also belong to the kingdom of Denmark, but have a more or less autonomous statute. They are represented by 2 seats at the Parliament.
