Amphitheater of Tarragone

The Amphithéâtre of Tarragone is dated from the 2nd century and was located in the town of Tarraco (today Tarragone in Catalogne)

It is built on a ground inclined, partly cut with very the rock, partly constant on vaults in Opus caementicium . It preserves most of the steps, the arena and the basements.

In the arena, one sees the ruins of a basilica wisigothe of the 6th century and Romance church Profitable Saint, high at the 12th century with the memory of the Fructueux bishop and his deacons Augure and Euloge, carried out in the Amphithéâtre in 259 a. J. - C.

The Amphithéâtre belongs to the whole of the Roman vestiges of Tarragone classified with the World heritage of UNESCO.
