Amphitheater of Large

The amphitheater of Grand had a capacity of: 17000 places, and was classified thus among the ten vastest Amphithéâtre S of the Roman world, its main roads measured 148 meters indeed. The building was in fact an semi-amphitheater, built between 80 a. J. - C. and 140 a. J. - C. hardcore of small apparatus.

It belonged to the Gallo-Roman Sanctuaire of Large which was dedicated to the god Gallo-Roman healer Apollon - Grannus, was built with and located in the village of Grand in the the Vosges in France.

In 213 a. J-C., the emperor Caracalla visited the sanctuary which, for the occasion, was entitled to work of embellishment of the Amphithéâtre (refitting of the western part in large apparatus).

It was restored starting from 1963. In 1995, a cover of steps out of wooden was installed in a preoccupation with a safeguarding. There is today: 4500 places available for spectacles, in order to give again life with the Gallo-Roman site.
