Amoun of Kellia

Amoun, Ammon or Amun (towards 350 - 412) is a saint and a Christian Ermite of Egypt. He was one of the most venerated ascetics Désert of Nitrie (70 km in the south of Alexandria, and Saint Athanase mentions it in the Vie of Saint Antoine . Its name is the same one as that of the god Ammon of old Egypt.

According to the Legend, it was forced with the marriage at 20 years and persuaded his wife, during the wedding night, to make wish of Chasteté. He lived together during 18 years in the Continence, and then, he left to become a hermit in the desert of Nitrie, while it founded a convent in its own house. He worked with Saint Antoine and he gathered his monks under his direction, thus forming a monastery of hermits. Traditionally, it is presented like the first hermit has to have a monastery, known under the name of Kellia, in Nitrie. He would have died in 62 years.

Celebration

The Church of Occident and the Church of the East celebrate Amoun the October 4th. In its Calendar of the Heart , Rudolf Steiner famous the December 20th.
