Amhrán Na bhFiann

Amhrán Na bhFiann (API) is the National anthem of the Irish Republic.

Although usually sung in Irish, a translation of the original in English is known under its title has Soldier' S Song (" The song of a soldat"), as well as under name National anthem of Ireland ( Amhrán Náisiúnta Na hÉireann ).

History of the Irish national anthem

The words were written by Peadar Kearney and the music was composed by Kearney and Patrick Heeney in 1907. It was published in the newspaper Irish Freedom ( Irish Liberté ) in 1912. The version of the original in Irish was the work of Bulmer Hobson.

This song was adopted immediately by the Irish Volunteers (Irish militia nationalist) and the refrain was declared national anthem official in 1926, to replace the God Save Ireland .
