American Stonehenge

The American Stonehenge ( America' S Stonehenge in English, formerly known like Mystery Hill ), is the site many structures made of large stones extending on approximately 120,000  m ² close to the town of Salem, in the North-East of the the United States. The name " America' S Stonehenge" is a recent Néologisme. There is no bond with Stonehenge in England.

The site became a tourist Attraction popular, in particular near the followers of the New Age. Among the many assumptions not-checked concerning the origins of the site that appears according to which the site could be a astronomical Observatoire builds by a civilization unknown Pre-Colombian.

They affirm that certain stones are embedded in trees which could have pushed before the arrival of the first colonists, and similaritées between the ruins and architecture Phénicienne, and affirm that the marks on certain stones resemble written forms of the Old world. Barry Fell, a marine biologist of the University of Harvard, affirmed that these inscriptions are in Ogham, in Phénicien and Ibérien (also known like Ibérien-Punic). It described in detail its discoveries in its book America B.C.

The Carbon dating of the coal wells discovered on the spot give a date between 173 and 2000 before Jesus-Christ. What could indicate that the site was built by the Amerindian . for example, a “sacrificial rock” which comprises grooves being able to be used for the flow of blood resembles curiously stones found in several old farms which were used to extract the caustic Soda from the charcoal, first stage in the manufacture of the soap. On the other hand, of the objects found on the site result several archeologists in thinking that the stones were assembled by farmers of the surroundings between the 18th century and the 19th century.

The history of the site is partly muddled with the gestures of William Goodwin, an insurance agent which bought the grounds surrounding the site in 1936. It was convinced that Mystery Hill was the proof that the Culdee, of the Moines Irish, lived on the spot a long time before the discovery of America, a concept which it sought to make known. It moved several stones for better supporting its idea, at the same time destroying of good part the archaeological interest of the places. The current owner of the places, the private company America' S Stonehenge Foundation, affirms that its gestures are " one of the reasons for which the enigma of Mystery Hill is if obscure".
