American Megatrends

American Megatrends Incorporated ( FRIENDLY ) is an American data-processing company based in Georgia producing components and Logiciel S for PC, in particular of the chip S BIOS. It was founded in 1985 by its current chairman and chair, S. Shankar.

American Megatrends was one of the pioneers in data-processing storage with for example the controllers RAID, FRIENDLY RAID having even been world number one in the production of charts RAID between 1995 and 2000. Division RAID of FRIEND was acquired in 2001 by LSI Logic.

FRIEND also made following progress:

  • First to build Mother chart based on the Processors Intel 386 and 486.

  • First to support USB.
  • First to build and employ a system including/understanding four processors Xeon.
  • First to integrate diagnoses and to support ACPI
